Power forward Derrick Favors is confident he and the Utah Jazz will be able to hammer out a deal that will keep him in Salt Lake City. Although Favors and the Jazz have not always been on the same page, he made it clear that he prefers staying a Jazz past this offseason, per Tony Jones of The Salt Lake Tribune.

“The communication has been good,” Favors told The Tribune this week. “I’m pretty sure me and my agent [Wallace Prather] will get a meeting set up, and we’ll figure some things out. I know they want me back, and I want to come back. But, it’s a business and a numbers game, so we’ll have to see.”

Favors has been around the league for eight seasons, long enough to be familiar with the fact that the intention to stay with a team does not always get fulfilled, which is also why he’s open to testing the free agency market.

After getting selected by the New Jersey Nets in the 2010 NBA Draft, Derrick Favors was shipped to Utah before he could even finish his rookie season in his original team. In 2014, the Jazz signed Favors to a four-year deal worth $46.95 million, one which is set to expire at the end of this month.

Favors does not have the 3-point range most NBA coaches want to see from a power forward these days, but the former Yellow Jacket is a dependable scorer down low. Last season, he bounced back from an underwhelming 2016-17 campaign and averaged 12.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game while shooting a career-high 56.3 percent from the field.
