The contestants for the NBA All-Star Weekend Slam Dunk Contest were announced today and one notable snub was Utah Jazz rookie Donovan Mitchell.

There was a lot of support for Mitchell's campaign for his participation in the contest.

Apparently, it did not sit too well with Mitchell to not get the invite. After news broke out that Smith reportedly was the first participant, Mitchell sent a tweet with a single emoji. One cannot draw final conclusions from one-emoji tweets, but the timing and the specific emoji he used certainly make it appear as if Mitchell disagreed with the news:

Mitchell probably felt disappointed that nobody has reached out to invite him to the Slam Dunk contest. He should have felt even worse when another rookie was invited before him.

Earlier, Mitchell downplayed the idea when he was asked about him participating in the event. He said:

“It would be great, but I haven’t paid any attention to that whatsoever. Not even the whole weekend. That’s not even been on my head at all… People bring it up, but I don’t even like to entertain it. I just focus on the task at hand.”

But if his tweets are any indications, he appears to keep a close eye on any news about the dunk contest.

Smith Jr. dismissed the report that he was a slam dunk participant via Twitter:

It will be interesting to see how this contest goes and if Mitchell weighs in with any thoughts on it while watching it.
