Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell had an ugly shooting night Wednesday against the Houston Rockets, but his team got the win plus he set a new franchise rookie record, so it still all ended well for the former Louisville Cardinals hotshot.

Mitchell, who finished Game 2 with 17 points on an atrocious 6-for-21 shooting from the field, handed out 11 dimes in 38 minutes on the floor during a 116-108 victory over Houston to break the legendary John Stockton’s Utah rookie mark for assists in a playoff game, per NBA.com/Stats.

Mitchell got plenty of help around, especially from Jazz forward Joe Ingles, who entered the game locked and loaded. Ingles led the team with 27 points on seven 3-pointers. The Jazz actually beat Houston in its own game, as Utah swished 15 triples on 32 attempts, while the Rockets went just 10-for-37 from distance.

Utah’s bench also played a key role in Game 2. Jae Crowder and Alec Burks combined for 32 of the Jazz’s 41 bench points, while Houston’s second stringers only had 22 markers.

Stockton’s playoff single-game record in assists is not the only one broken by Mitchell this postseason. Mitchell had also bested Karl Malone’s playoff record for points in a game when he dropped 33 points in Game 4 of the first-round series with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Mitchell and the Jazz will look to get the upper hand in the series this coming Friday when they take their turn to host the Rockets in Salt Lake City.
