Donovan Mitchell has been the talk of the town of late after the Utah Jazz made it clear that they were looking for a potential trade partner for their cornerstone superstar. That's not the only reason he made headlines on Tuesday, though.
A clip of Mitchell playing some pick-up basketball during an offseason training session is currently making its rounds on social media — and for good reason. On one particular play, the Jazz All-Star decided to throw one down with a bit of authority. Mitchell dunked the ball so hard that he ended up breaking the backboard (h/t ClutchPoints on Twitter):
Mitchell didn't exactly shatter the glass ala-Shaquille O'Neal, but the power of his two-handed tomahawk dunk caused the backboard to literally misalign. His antics caused quite a delay in the game, and they even had to bring out a ladder to fix the problem.
This is exactly why a handful of teams in the NBA have been doing what they can to try and pry away this young man from the Jazz. Not only is he a show-stopper, but Mitchell has also proven through the years that he is a bona fide superstar that can have a significant impact on the outcome of any game.
Unfortunately for him, things didn't really pan out with the Jazz. The team found some success with Mitchell at the helm, but in the end, they fell short of their objective of winning an NBA title. Utah is now ready to move on from the three-time All-Star, and it now feels that it's only going to be a matter of time before his new team is announced.
