Second-year man Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz aims to follow in the footsteps of his idol Damian Lillard. And by footsteps, Mitchell means that he wants to own an Adidas signature shoe one day.

As reported by Eric Woodyard of Deseret News, Mitchell revealed his desire to have signature shoes of his own just like Lillard:

“If that ever happens, it would be a blessing,” Mitchell told the Deseret News. “I would be really excited for that to happen. Like I said, every kid kind of dreams of those things. For that, I would be really blessed but I guess I’ve got a lot of work ahead of me, but that would be awesome.”

Without giving away too much, Mitchell — who's currently being marketed as an Adidas athlete —  hinted that some things might be in the works:

“I won’t give you too much, but some other things for sure,” Mitchell said, smiling.

Is a Donovan Mitchell signature coming? Only Mitchell and Adidas know. But Mitchell is coming off a superb rookie season. He pretty much sealed his place in the NBA as one of the bright young stars and probably the league's face in the years to come.

Lillard himself shared what it's like to be a signature shoe athlete, noting that there's a fine line between being tagged as the best players in the league to someone who could sell a shoe:

“It’s a lot of things that goes into being a signature athlete. So, it’s one thing to be one of the best players and then for a company to say, ‘alright we want to give you a signature shoe’ and ‘we believe you can sell a shoe.’ That’s completely different so it’ll be interesting to see that process for him.”
