Donaval Mitchell is having himself quite a rookie year.

He's making waves around the NBA as one of the Utah Jazz's most promising young players, averaging 16.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists in his first 23 games as an NBA player, per Basketball Reference.

Even more impressive might be his super-human leaping ability. Just look at this guy dunk on a put-back against the Los Angeles Lakers.

But Mitchell has stayed humble so far this season. He claimed in November that he was not worried or even thinking about the possibility of winning Rookie of the Year, per Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders.

“I don’t, to be honest with you,” Mitchell told Basketball Insiders during a video interview on November 18. “I would say the first two or three games I was kind of thinking about it, to be honest with you. I had the names saved in my background of the guys who were projected to win it, and that was all I would think about.”

Mitchell is obviously still young, but early returns say that he is very likely to become a star. He just poured in 41 points on Friday, breaking the Jazz rookie record.

His comments to Basketball Insiders were in mid-November, well before the tear he's been on lately. No one would blame him if he's thinking about Rookie of the Year trophy now.
