Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell has made his first public statement after learning that he tested positive for coronavirus.

Mitchell is now the second confirmed case of the coronavirus in the NBA. His teammate, Rudy Gobert, tested positive earlier this week.

“Thanks to everyone who has been reaching out since hearing the news about my positive test,” Mitchell wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday afternoon. We are all learning more about the seriousness of this situation and hopefully people can continue to educate themselves and realize that they need to behave responsibly both for their own health and for the well being of those around them.”

In light of this pandemic, the NBA announced that it has suspended the 2019-20 regular season. Several sporting leagues around the globe have taken similar steps in hopes of limiting the spread of the virus. At this point, it's not clear when play will resume. Mavs owner Mark Cuban recently suggested that the season could be delayed until July (or even August).

Mitchell was enjoying a fine season with the Jazz. The former first-round pick has made 63 appearances in this campaign, racking up averages of 24.2 points on 45.3 percent shooting from the field (36.4 percent from beyond the arc), 4.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.0 steal in 34.4 minutes per outing.
