Utah Jazz shooting guard Donovan Mitchell was placed in concussion protocol following the team's win the New York Knicks on Tuesday.

It is unclear what the extent of Mitchell's injury is, as well as when he sustained said injury. But the All-Star has been ruled out for Wednesday's matchup with the Dallas Mavericks.

Mitchell had his worst performance of the season against the Knicks, shooting a woeful 3-for-15 from the field, including just 2-for-9 from beyond the arc. Still, he gutted it out over 34 minutes, and actually finished the contest in the green (+1) in terms of plus-minus.

The Jazz will hope this is but a minor setback for Mitchell. The former Louisville star has been brilliant early in the season. Despite Tuesday's poor shooting performance, Mitchell is still averaging 23.4 points and shooting a career-high 39.5 percent from beyond the arc on 8.6 attempts per game. Mitchell is also averaging 4.9 assists and 4.4 rebounds.

Utah took over the second spot in the Western Conference following the win and a Los Angeles Clippers loss.

Rudy Gobert is staking a claim for his third Defensive Player of the Year Award, averaging 2.8 blocks per contest and leading the team with a stellar defensive rating of 99 through 17 games. Mike Conley has been an efficient playmaker in the backcourt, and Jordan Clarkson is once again providing scoring off the bench. Not to mention, Joe Ingles and Royce O'Neal have been excelling at starting Utah's ball movement and spacing the floor at the forward spot.

The Jazz will hope to improve to 14-4 Wednesday against the Mavs, but they will have to get the job done without Donovan Mitchell.
