Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell reacted to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne’s report that New York Knicks owner Jim Dolan and the team were “not prepared” to offer unrestricted free agent Kevin Durant a max contract due to concerns of the two-time Finals MVP’s Achilles injury recovery.

The Jazz isn’t uninvolved with free agency moves, too, however. Free agent guard Ricky Rubio is signing with Western Conference foe Phoenix Suns and reports point to Utah reaching an agreement with Indiana Pacers free agent wing Bojan Bogdanovic, a proficient three-point shooter the team needs in the wake of the Mike Conley deal, which sent Kyle Korver packing.

Mitchell is a local, tri-state New York kid. The 2018 Rookie of the Year runner-up was born in New York before going to school in Connecticut. His father, Donovan Sr., works in the New York Mets’ front office. Mitchell grew up a steadfast Mets fan, rooting for the lovable loser baseball team.

Now, another New York metropolitan team is making headlines. The Brooklyn Nets will sign Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant—two All-Stars—to max contracts.

Almost like he’s predicting the back page of New York’s tabloids, Mitchell couldn’t only react with, “Wow.”
