Donovan Mitchell was bounced from the first round of the 2020 NBA Playoffs, but the Utah Jazz star says this is “just the beginning” for his team.

“I know what I can do,” Mitchell said in an interview following Utah's loss to the Denver Nuggets in the first round. “I know what I worked for, I know how hard I work, and I know how hard this team has worked.

“This is just the beginning.”

Mitchell, who turned 24 earlier this month, was a monster in the playoffs. He and the Jazz jumped out to a 3-1 lead over the Nuggets in the first round. However, Denver managed to climb out of their deficit behind the solid play of Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic to eventually win the series.

Mitchell had several shining moments in the postseason — maybe none brighter than his effort in Game 4. Mitchell and Murray went blow for blow until both players had 50 points. Mitchell poured in 18 in of his 51 in the fourth quarter alone, and the Jazz withstood Murray's onslaught.

A look at the back-and-forth battle between Mitchell and Murray in Game 4:

Game 4 wasn't the only great outing for Mitchell in the series. He had 44 points on 14-of-25 shooting in Game 6. It wasn't enough, though, as Murray led the Nuggets to victory with another 50-point effort.

It's difficult to elaborate on how important Mitchell has become to the Jazz organization. There are simply too many good things to say about him. With a strong will and a motor that just won't quit, he's the heart and soul of the team.

In his 69 regular season appearances, the former Louisville Cardinal racked up averages of 24.0 points on 44.9 percent shooting from the field (36.6 percent from beyond the arc), 4.4 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.0 steal in 34.3 minutes per contest.

By his own words, it sounds like Donovan Mitchell is motivated for next season.
