The Utah Jazz have lifted their unwritten no-headband rule. Right after the news broke, star guard Donovan Mitchell shared his desire to don a headband for the first time.

The ban was lifted by Jazz head coach Quinn Snyder to welcome Mike Conley, whose signature look includes a headband. Snyder even joked that he might wear a headband:

Conley and Mitchell were quick to respond to the news. As such, a headband gang may be on the rise in Utah:

While there's no clear history as to when the unwritten rule started, reports reveal that it harks back from the days of legendary coaches Frank Layden and Jerry Sloan, and also Ty Corbin. While Snyder respects the organization's tradition, he noted that the sheer focus of the team is to win. It doesn't concern him that much whatever his players are wearing:

“Mike’s and our team’s focus are on being unselfish and playing defense that will be the case whether he or any of our players wear headbands or any of our five different uniforms or whether Donovan wears tights,” he continued, per Eric Woodyard of the Deseret News. “That’s what’s important to us.”

Indeed, the 2019-20 season will be an interesting campaign for the Jazz. Not only will they get a new and improved roster with the addition of Conley, but fans might be treated to a headband gang.
