The Utah Jazz did more than what most NBA fans expected of them this season. After trading for draft pick Donovan Mitchell, losing star Gordon Hayward last summer to the Boston Celtics in free agency, then subsequently trading for Ricky Rubio, the feeling around the NBA was that this past year would be a building season for Utah as they worked to develop players in hopes of making the playoffs in the future. Fortunately for them, it was a quick development thanks to the instant star power of rookie Donovan Mitchell.

Mitchell didn't start games right away, but once he found himself in the starting lineup, he never relinquished that role as he averaged 21.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.6 steals in his 68 consecutive starts since mid-November.

On Saturday afternoon, Mitchell took to Twitter to deliver a message to someone who had recently shouted at his mom for throwing garbage away on private property, basically  claiming she didn't live there. Then when he found out it was Mitchell's mother, he apologized because he was a big fan of Mitchell's. Mitchell did not take that well, as shown by his Twitter post.

Based on Mitchell's statement, it can be assumed that his mother lives in a neighborhood that doesn't have a lot of people of color. It's unfortunate that his mother has to deal with this kind of situation, but Mitchell handled it both professionally and wisely to raise awareness.
