As NBA free agency news continues to pile up (and the league overall holds its breath and waits for Kawhi Leonard’s decision), the Utah Jazz made a move to help bolster its point guard rotation.

The Jazz signed backup point guard Emmanuel Mudiay to a one-year deal, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Mudiay is coming off his best season in the pros as one of the main options for the woeful New York Knicks. The Knickerbockers only managed 17 wins, but Mudiay was given all he could eat for the team in a big-time rebuilding season that led to the drafting of highly regarded prospect R.J. Barrett.

Still only 23 years old, Mudiay joins a solid guard rotation for Quin Snyder’s Jazz headlined by recent acquisition Mike Conley and budding star Donovan Mitchell. Mudiay will likely join Dante Exum as part of the backup guard rotation.

The Jazz have been extremely active to start the offseason, as they started off with a bang by trading for Mike Conley. Then, the team signed Bojan Bogdanovic to a sizable deal.

Now, with Mudiay in the fold in addition to all their other moves this offseason, the Jazz have positioned themselves as one of the most threatening teams in a wide-open Western Conference.

Mudiay started his career in Denver, but he broke out last season for the Knicks — logging career-highs in points per game (14.8) and effective field goal percentage (49.3 percent).
