Emmanuel Mudiay opted to sign with the Utah Jazz because he believes it will put him in a good position to continue improving next season.

Mudiay signed agreed to a one-year contract with the Jazz on Tuesday. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Mudiay's agent, BJ Armstrong, is convinced that Utah is “such a good fit” for the 23-year-old point guard. Tim McMahon of ESPN earlier said that Mudiay will benefit from playing under head coach Quin Snyder and starting point guard Mike Conley.

The fourth-year guard is coming off a promising season, where he averaged a career-high 14.8 points in 59 games with the Knicks last season. New York had a chance to make him a restricted free agent, but the Knicks did not extend a qualifying offer, which virtually signaled the end of his stint in the Big Apple.

Mudiay will be joining a retooled Jazz roster, where he is expected to become an understudy of Conley. The Jazz acquired Conley in a trade that sent Jae Crowder, Kyle Korver, Grayson Allen, the 23rd pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, and a protected future first-round pick.

Utah also agreed to a four-year, $73 million deal with Bojan Bogdanovic. They also secured a one-year commitment from veteran journeyman Jeff Green to improve their depth, which took a hit with the departure of Derrick Favors, who was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans for two first-round picks.
