Point guard Emmanuel Mudiay says he signed with the Utah Jazz in free agency because of their stout player development program and the chance to play in the postseason.

Mudiay signed a one-year, $1.73 million contract with the Jazz. He will back up Mike Conley at the point guard position and play some shooting guard as well.

Emmanuel Mudiay was with the New York Knicks this past season. He averaged 14.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists in 59 games while shooting 44.6 percent from the field, 32.9 percent from beyond the arc and 77.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Mudiay was the seventh overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets. The 23-year-old hasn't lived up to the hype of being such a high draft pick, but Mudiay is looking to jump-start his NBA career with the Jazz, who are title contenders after acquiring Conley from the Memphis Grizzlies and signing stretch forward Bojan Bogdanovic in free agency.

Mudiay has career averages of 11.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 246 games with the Nuggets and Knicks. Jazz head coach Quin Snyder expects all of his players to play high-level defense when they're on the floor, so Mudiay is going to have to show effort on that side of the ball. He can't focus on just offense in Utah. If he does, Mudiay wont' see that much playing time.
