On Wednesday night, Duke Blue Devils phenom Zion Williamson suffered a bizarre knee injury after his Nike sneaker essentially gave out on him, causing his foot to rip through the shoe and resulting in Williamson slipping. Fortunately, Williamson appears to be alright, as he only suffered a minor knee sprain, but it was still a scary incident and one that Nike is certainly taking a lot of heat for. Former Duke star and current Utah Jazz wing Grayson Allen said he had never seen anything like what happened to Williamson:

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw it,” Allen said, according to Eric Woodyard of The Deseret News. “First of all, I didn’t see the shoe bust at first, I just saw him go down. To bust through your shoe like that, that’s a lot of power to do that. I’ve never had any issues like that so I was surprised to see that. I wasn’t sure that could happen with a shoe. I’ve never seen anything like that.”

As for whether or not Williamson should continue playing out his freshman season at Duke or simply shut it down to prepare for the NBA Draft? Allen says it should be Williamson's decision only:

“I think people who say that have the right intentions in mind and you’re thinking about the best for the player because he’s obviously set himself up to be No. 1 or No. 2 in the draft next year,” Allen said. “But it’s up to him and I think if he’s fully healthy, knowing Zion just a little bit, he’ll want to play and there’s a reason that guys go to college to begin with.”

Allen was selected by the Jazz with the No. 21 overall pick.
