Reports of a damaged relationship between Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert may have Utah Jazz fans concerned, but their teammate, Joe Ingles, is finding some humor in the situation.

After a tweet inviting him to Canberra for coffee, Ingles wrote “I'd much rather Utah or Melbourne.” Ingles is from South Australia and played spent time playing ball in both Canberra and Melbourne:

After Mitchell tweeted “smh” at a disapproving response, Ingles gave Mitchell a cheeky response:

Ingles appears to be poking fun at a quote from a report in The Athletic that said the Gobert and Mitchell relationship “doesn’t appear salvageable.”

According to the article, “The Jazz have already begun working on the Mitchell-Gobert relationship, but sources say Mitchell remains reluctant to fix what might have been broken.”

Reports of the fracturing of the relationship between the Jazz All-Stars have been prevalent since both players contracted the coronavirus in March. Days earlier, the center had been carelessly touching microphones after making light of the virus.

On “Good Morning America,” Mitchell acknowledged there were some hard feelings initially:

“It took a while for me to kind of cool off, and I read what he said and heard what he said…I'm glad he's doing OK. I'm glad I'm well. I'm just really happy, to be honest, Robin, that it wasn't the whole [team].”

Both Jazz stars have been cleared of the virus, and Gobert recently downplayed the tension:

“It's true that we didn't speak for a while after this … Everyone has got different relationships — it's never perfect … But at the end of the day, we both want the same thing — and it's winning.”

The Jazz are hoping this will indeed smooth over so they don't have to do anything drastic like trading one of their stars. Utah sat in fourth in the Western Conference when the NBA went on hiatus.
