Mike Conley isn't officially a member of the Utah Jazz yet, but he's already training with his new backcourt mate Donovan Mitchell.

The trade between the Jazz and Memphis Grizzlies won’t become official until July 6. However, Conley and Mitchell are wasting no time developing chemistry on the court.

At the NBA Awards show on Monday, Conley talked about being traded to the Jazz and where he was when the move went down.

“I was actually traveling to my mom’s house in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and got off the plane and found out I had got traded,” Conley said, via Eric Woodyard of the Desert News. “It just happened so quick, you kind of expected it but once it happens, all the emotions and feelings come in.

“But after about 35 minutes or so, it all settled in and I’m really excited about the new opportunity. Utah, I'm looking forward to it. Let's go do something special.”

Conley is a major upgrade over Ricky Rubio at the point guard position. The Jazz now have two dynamic scorers in the backcourt and an elite center in Rudy Gobert, who won his second consecutive Defensive Player of the Year award on Monday.

This past season with the Grizzlies, Conley averaged 21.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 6.4 assists. The Jazz haven't had a scoring point guard since Deron Williams. Teams won't be able to box Mitchell now that Conley is in the fold.
