The Utah Jazz had been the anomaly of the NBA this season. Entering Thursday, the Jazz were yet to have any player test positive for COVID-19 or enter the league's health and safety protocols. Earlier in the day, that ended as Jazz forward Joe Ingles was placed onto the list.

It appears as though there might be a team outbreak in the midst. According to the Salt Lake Tribute, superstar center Rudy Gobert has tested positive for COVID-19 as well. He is now in the league's health and safety protocols as well.

If that sounds familiar, it's because it is. Gobert, famously, was the first case in the NBA when the pandemic first began. He jokingly placed his hands all over the microphone at the end of a press conference in March of 2020. Gobert came under fire for that transgression, as he was seen as not having taken the issue seriously enough. That eventually prompted an apology from the Jazz star center.

Shortly thereafter, the NBA shut down, followed by what seemed to be most of the world.

Of course, that early during the pandemic, no one knew exactly how dangerous COVID-19 would turn out to be. Yet, here we are almost two years later and Gobert has tested positive once again.

This time, the NBA has been figuring out ways to deal with the pandemic. Many games have been postponed. The league has instituted 10-day contract exemptions for teams in order to have enough players available to play games.
