The whirlwind of the NBA trade deadline moves by the Cleveland Cavaliers has sent forward Jae Crowder to Salt Lake City, where he will play alongside Thabo Sefolosha and the rest of the Utah Jazz. In one notable anecdote, Sefolosha and Crowder’s dad once played together in France. This is according to the 33-year-old Sefolosha himself, as he tweeted out his excitement at the prospect of playing with someone who also bitterly reminds him how old he is.

Before being selected by the Philadelphia 76ers 13th overall in the 2006 NBA Draft, Thabo Sefolosha spent the early 2000s playing for Élan Chalon, a French league team with which he said he was teammates with Corey Crowder – Jae’s dad.

Jae Crowder was traded by the Cavs to Utah during a three-team deal that also saw the Jazz receive Derrick Rose (released). Crowder was not having quite a good season in Cleveland, where he averaged just 8.6 points and 3.3 rebounds in 53 games played. The Jazz are hoping, however, that the Crowder version they are getting is the one that averaged better numbers for the Boston Celtics during the 2016-17 campaign. During that season, the 27-year-old Crowder averaged 13.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game, while also being a tremendous asset on the defensive end of the court.

Crowder is expected to make his debut in Jazz threads this Sunday, when Utah welcomes Damian Lillard and the rest of the Portland Trail Blazers in Salt Lake City. He is unlikely to get heavy minutes right away, but Crowder seems to be a nice versatile addition for the Jazz.
