The Utah Jazz fan who got into a verbal tussle with Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook has explained his side.

Per Jeremiah Jensen of KSL Sports, the fan claimed that he did not hurl any racial taunts or say a single swear word to tick Westbrook off. According to the fan, he told Westbrook to “sit down and ice your knees bro” and not “get down on your knees like your use to” like what Patrick Patterson claimed.

“I never said a swear word. Everybody in the vicinity will say and she never left her seat, never said a word, hands on her lap. Never said a single swear word to him.”

Russell Westbrook's side of the story, however, was different from what the Jazz fan said. The Thunder All-Star doubled down on what Patterson said in a tweet and said that he felt disrespected. In fact, according to Russ, the man's wife also joined and said racist remarks.

According to league sources, the Jazz are looking into the matter seriously. They are now conducting a full investigation as to what really led to the incident. Once concluded, sanctions will likely be handed out.

In the end, the incident should serve as a lesson to both fans and players alike. Though trash talking is part of the mental aspect of the game, there are lines that shouldn't be crossed.
