The Utah Jazz are coming off their second straight trip to the playoff where the franchise put together a promising campaign behind their young core group.

One of those core pieces to the puzzle in veteran forward Derrick Favors is set to hit the open market this offseason as an unrestricted free agent where he could become one of the most sought out big men on the market.

Marc J. Spears of the ESPN is reporting that the Jazz has Favors high on their list of priorities to re-sign to a new deal this summer.

Derrick Favors loves everything about the Jazz but sacrificed his offensive role and minutes for small ball. Jazz general manager Dennis Lindsey has said that re-signing Favors is a high priority for the franchise.

Favors has developed into a dependable big man, but the franchise's shift to playing more uptempo small ball has pushed him out of the lineup in key stretches of the game. Despite that, he was able to put together another productive campaign, averaging 12.3 points on 56.3 percent shooting from the field along with 7.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.1 blocks in 28.0 minutes per contest, while starting in all 77 games that he played.

The 26-year-old has been a dependable offensive factor that has given the Jazz a solid inside presence to pair alongside reigning Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert. Utah does hold the advantage of having Favors' Bird Rights that could allow them to give him a more lucrative deal.

Given the upward trajectory of the franchise, this could sway Favors to want to continue to remain a key part of a team that could become a possible title contender in the coming years. All of this may hinge on his willingness to continue to sacrifice some of his role for the betterment of the team.
