Donovan Mitchell has been the face of the Utah Jazz franchise for a long time now. He was selected 13th overall by the franchise in 2017, and he's been magnificent for the franchise overall. However, if this rumor turns out to be true, this team might once again lose their franchise player to… bigger forces.

Brian Windhorst and Tim McMahon on their podcast dished out rumors that Donovan Mitchell could want out of Utah, whether by trade or free agency. (via The Hoop Collective)

“There is, I’m gonna say, at least speculation around the league that market size might matter to him,” said MacMahon of Mitchell.

Does this mean we should expect Jazz trade rumors surrounding Donovan Mitchell to grow larger? No, absolutely not. As much as the Nets or the Knicks would want Mitchell to come home to New York City, there's nothing that indicates that he'd want to leave this team. Rumors of his strained relationship with Gobert were squashed and never resurfaced, and no major sign of discontent has been reported from his team.

This, unfortunately, is the problem small-market teams like the Jazz experience in the NBA. Whether it's true or not, their stars will always be linked to trades to bigger teams like Los Angeles or New York. Damian Lillard, for all his talk in the last few years about wanting to stay a Blazer, has rumors of him demanding a trade swirling every day.

At the end of the day, all the Jazz can do is provide Mitchell with a competitive team to entice him to stay. Considering that they've made the playoffs for most of Spida's career, you could say they're doing a great job at that.
