Utah Jazz shooting guard Donovan Mitchell says being at Team USA training camp in Las Vegas “is a blessing.”

Mitchell has been overlooked his entire life. The high-flyer didn’t play in the McDonald’s All-American Game and wasn’t invited to the high-profile summer camps when he was in high school.

That's why the Jazz guard is thankful Team USA invited him to training camp and looking forward to trying to make the 12-man roster which will compete at this year’s FIBA World Cup in China.

“This is huge,” Mitchell said, via Tony Jones of The Athletic. “I didn’t get invited to the bigger camps when I was growing up. I didn’t participate in any Team USA stuff. So to be here, to get invited, it’s a blessing. I just want to enjoy the fact that I’m here, play hard, and try and make the team.

“Being healthy is a blessing. Being here is a blessing. I’m just ready to enjoy the experience of it all.”

Donovan Mitchell is probably going to make the team since so many All-Star guards dropped out. The Jazz's leading scorer is one of the most dynamic young players we have in the NBA today. USA coach Gregg Popovich has already spoken highly of Mitchell.

Last season for the Jazz, Mitchell averaged 23.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists while shooting 43.2 percent from the field, 36.2 percent from beyond the arc and 80.6 percent from the free-throw line. The 22-year-old has established himself as one of the best scorers in the league and figures to get even better after competing in this training camp and the World Cup in China.
