It's a great year to be an Indiana Pacers fan.

With the acquisitions of an All-Star-caliber guard in Jeff Teague early in the summer — and the additions of Thaddeus Young and Al Jefferson — this team is primed to make a run for one of the top spots in the Eastern Conference.

The front office also signed head coach Nate McMillan to replace Frank Vogel at the helm. However, this team will truly only go as far as its star, Paul George, and Teague can take them.

George and Teague already working together

After taking a short post-Rio Olympics break, George is back in the fold, leading workouts in Indiana and beginning the meshing process with the new faces of the team.

Teague has only started basketball activities this week, after recovering from a torn patella tendon that hampered his play all of last season.

“I'm a really reserved guy; I don't really talk much unless I'm on the court,” Teague told Mark Montieth of Pacers.com. “But I'm a competitor, so I like to compete and trash talk and do all that. In the locker room I might be a little reserved and don't say much, but on the court I'm more outgoing and a leader. Yesterday in the locker room I was a little reserved, and it probably was a little weird because we were both just sitting there … our lockers are kind of by each other, so it was a little awkward. But today we played and you could see the relationship growing.”

The chemistry between the 6-foot-2 point guard and George, the team's leading scorer will be imperative for the Pacers ultimate success. Teague's relationship with him and the rest of his teammates will be key as his role of distributor.

Jeff Teague on the Pacers roster

Indiana boasts a well-rounded squad with Monta Ellis at shooting guard and Myles Turner at center. Every starter in the roster has averaged double digits scoring last season.

“I know pretty much everybody,” he said. “We have a veteran squad, almost. I've played against everybody and know what everybody's going to do. We have a lot of talented players. It should be exciting.”

George will be taking added defensive responsibilities and the addition of Young will likely bolster their depth as an athletic rebounder and shot-blocker.

Everything begins and ends between the relationship of Teague and George as the two highest-profiled players in the team and the Wake Forest alum is completely understanding of it.

“I could just see a difference with him on the floor,” Teague said. “He was competing at a high level. He wanted to win every game. That's what I like. I'm used to winning. I've never not been to the playoffs (in seven seasons with Atlanta). I've been competitive my whole career, so competing at a high level is good and that's what he brought the first day on the floor.”
