During Tuesday night's preseason game between the New York Knicks and Houston Rockets, former NBA head coach and current ESPN commentator Jeff Van Gundy sounded off on the NBA's Domestic Violence Disciplinary Procedure.

The outspoken basketball analyst argued that players should be given a one-year suspension for any felony committed against a woman and on the second offense, get a lifetime ban from the league.

He also recalled the time when he attended a conference on domestic violence where NFL executives were also present. Here is the transcript as Tweeted by Sean Highkin of Uproxx.com:

The suggestion coming from Jeff Van Gundy on possible punishment may seem stiff, but the league office has drawn some flack on being inconsistent in handing out disciplinary measures, with the latest being the suspension handed out to Darren Collison. It can be recalled that in 2014, Jeff Taylor was suspended 24 games without pay after pleading guilty to the same case as Collison.

Derrick Rose is now on the spotlight with his ongoing trial, and if Van Gundy had it his way, the damage that the Knicks point guard could incur is a whopping $21,323,252 — a year's worth of pay.

Should the NBA review its procedures for such cases and decide to streamline the fines and suspensions to be handed out for domestic violence charges on its players, it will be a painstaking task and will remain a very sensitive topic.
