Shortly after Tony Romo made his speech conceding that Dallas' starting QB spot deservedly belongs to Dak Prescott, many fans and pundits began speculating where Romo will play after this season. Teams like the Texans, Jets, and Broncos were cited as possible trade partners.

Jerry Jones wants us all to pump the breaks.

When asked about the possibility of trading Romo after the season, Jones quickly shot down the idea. From Rob Phillips of DallasCowboys.com:

“I have no plans for (Romo) not to be part of the Dallas Cowboys. Not a consideration.”

If Dak Prescott continues to succeed and maintain the starting spot, it's difficult to imagine Romo accepting a backup role for the rest of his career. He demonstrated how great of a teammate he is with his speech on Tuesday, but Romo is a competitor. He won't be happy wasting away on the sideline.

So you're saying there's a chance?

Eventually, as the interview went on, Jones seemed to open the door for a possible Romo departure down the road. From The Dallas Morning News' Brandon George:

“I think Tony has five years left of really competing for a Super Bowl. I believe Tony will be the quarterback on a Super Bowl team. I believe that strongly.”

It's very unlikely that Romo will amicably back up Prescott for five years, the timeframe Jones suggests remains on the tail-end of his career. During his speech, Romo also acknowledged his competitive fire and desire to compete in the NFL once again, which some took as a direct statement to teams around the league in need of a QB.

For now, all is well in Dallas as Romo accepts his backup role for the 8-1 Cowboys. But when the offseason arrives, expect the rumor mill to churn rapidly.
