The past year has been littered with unexpected events, but Joe Namath is here to remind us that the New York Jets bring some normalcy to our lives. As crazy as 2020 has been, Namath shares that this year isn't crazy enough to see the Jets advance to the postseason.

“Anything could happen in this world, damn near anything — except for the Jets maybe making the playoffs this year,” Namath said Friday in a phone interview with ESPN. “It's happened before, so why would it shock anybody?”

The reason for Namath's subtle shot at the Jets came when he was asked about the prospects of New York taking Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 overall pick. The former quarterback, who won a Super Bowl with the Jets in 1968, wouldn't be surprised to see Lawrence prevent himself from being selected by the Jets.

Of course, when everyone speaks about a player forcing a team's hand in the draft, Eli Manning is brought into the discussion. Manning was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the 2004 NFL Draft, only to force his way to the New York Giants via trade.

At this moment, the Jets would have the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Adam Gase's squad is the only winless team remaining in the NFL and they've shown no signs of being able to win a game this season.

It has been tough sledding for the Jets when it comes to making the playoffs, with their last playoff berth coming in 2010. Even though these past 12 months have brought head-scratching moments, the Jets failing to play beyond the regular season is beyond ordinary.
