New York Jets head coach Adam Gase had acknowledged the prospect of giving up play-calling duties following an 0-5 start to the 2020 NFL season. However, it seems he has quickly had a change-of-heart.

Gase revealed that a discussion with the coaching staff spurred him to maintain his role calling plays on offense, per Connor Hughes of The Athletic:

The validation from the coaching staff could be seen as a positive sign that Gase still has semblance of control in the locker rom, even if it may only be from his own coaching staff. Unfortunately, he has provided little evidence that a potential resurgence is on the way.

Adam Gase admittedly thinking about handing over play-calling duties was compounded by the revelation of running back Le'Veon Bell liking tweets regarding his lack of usage in the offense. Bell's antics have since led to his release from the Jets.

Some have perceived the decision to release Bell as part of New York's efforts to reinforce their belief in Gase. Either way, there is no question that the franchise has its work cut out from top-to-bottom if they hope to take that next step in their grueling rebuild.

The Jets currently boast one of the worst offenses in the league under Gase's tutelage as they rank dead last 32nd in scoring (15.0 points per game) and 28th in total yards (279.4 per game). Although the team has opted against a change for now, it will be interesting to see if the continued struggles ultimately result in offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains or running backs coach Jim Bob Cooter taking over the play-calling.
