Earlier this month, New York Jets head coach Adam Gase said he wanted to lessen Le'Veon Bell's workload heading into 2020 to keep him fresh. Not long after that, the Jets decided to sign fellow running back Frank Gore.

That certainly wasn't a coincidence, and Gase outlined what he expects from the Bell-Gore duo next season:

“I think he’s a good teammate especially the last three or four years in that backup role and the supporting role of whoever that starter is,” Gase said of Gore, according to Ethan Greenberg of New York's team website. “He’s a great guy for Le’Veon to be around. Those two guys can really do some damage together. We have two guys that can play all three downs. They both have outstanding skillsets. There’s a little bit of difference in their running style and how they do things, but we know Frank really well and we know how to use them.”

While this is hardly the same Gore since his Pro Bowl days with the San Francisco 49ers, Gase is very familiar with the veteran, as he coached him with the Miami Dolphins in 2018.

That also just so happened to represent Gore's most efficient season since leaving the 49ers in 2015, with the 36-year-old logging 4.6 yards per carry during his lone campaign with the Dolphins.

Gore spent 2019 with the Buffalo Bills, rushing for 599 yards and a couple of touchdowns while averaging 3.6 yards per attempt.

Given how much Bell struggled during his debut season with the Jets this past year, it certainly makes sense to add a reliable guy like Gore to try and take some of the burden off of Bell's shoulders.

We'll see how things work out.
