Incoming New York Jets head coach Adam Gase said that new hire Gregg Williams has the job because of his swagger and attitude.

According to Mike Florio of PFT, Gase — who sat down with the Pro Football Talk PM podcast to discuss the future direction of the Jets — was all-too-happy to bring Williams on board.

“I've known him for 10 to 12 years. He’s somebody that I’ve gone against multiple times. I’ve always enjoyed facing him because I knew what kind of team I was going to be going against. I’ve always wanted to work with him, I’ve always wanted to go against him in practice. I love the way that his players feel about him, the swagger, the attitude that he brings to his group. I love his experience and the fact that he’s been a head coach. His attitude is just infectious.”

While Gregg Williams certainly has the credentials to back up his hire — and gets results for the team he's coaching — he's also got a very dominant “type A” personality that can not only foment division within the team ranks, but can cause him to butt heads with coaches.

But Adam Gase says that he isn't necessarily worried about that.

“The competition and the competitiveness between Gregg, myself, the staffs, that’s what you want. That’s how you get that energy you want to where the players feel that, they’re practicing like that, they’re creating that attitude so now all of a sudden it becomes the fourth quarter, it’s a close game, our guys have been there before.”

It should definitely be interesting to see if Adam Gase and Gregg Williams butt heads in the new season.
