The New York Jets held an introductory press conference for Joe Douglas, officially kicking off the Douglas-Adam Gase era.

Throughout the process, Joe Douglas was consistently thought to be the favorite in the team's pursuit of a new general manager. After the Jets finally announced Douglas, it came out that the former Eagles executive had turned the Jets down several times, but they wouldn't take ‘no' for an answer. He was always Gase's guy, and while the head coach insisted that CEO and owner Christopher Johnson would make the final decision, it was clear that Gase was calling the shot.

Adam Gase got the man he wanted, and now they'll both have to deliver. The two have a longstanding relationship, and Gase made it very clear he's a big believer in Douglas's ability, per Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

“His evaluations skills are unbelievable. Guys who have worked with him in the past, they always would say, ‘If Joe says a guy’s a good player, believe him. Because he knows what he’s doing.' And coaches trust him,” Gase said when addressing the media.

Gase's comments echo what we've heard throughout this process: that Douglas is a very respected evaluator. He served as Howie Roseman's right-hand man in Philly, and their recent accomplishments speak for themselves.

They're in New York, so the duo will face significantly higher expectations than most new head coach-GM combos. The pressure will be on, and every move will be under the microscope.

Gase has been hailed as a quarterback guru, so if Sam Darnold doesn't develop the way everyone hopes he will, Gase will be the first to catch blame. Their futures will be tied together, much as Gase and Douglas will also be held accountable.
