In the lead-up to the 2019 NFL Draft, a report surfaced that new New York Jets head coach Adam Gase was already at odds with general manager Mike Maccagnan, with the report also stating that Maccagnan could lose his job as a result.

At Jets rookie minicamp on Friday, Gase profusely denied those rumors, saying that his relationship with Maccagnan is just fine:

“I don't know who decides to put that stuff out there,” Gase said, according to Jeremy Bergman of NFL.com. “It kind of pisses me off a little bit. We have discussions on everything. That's our job. We have to work through so much stuff. That's what we have to do. That's all we've done since we've been here.”

Gase added that he and Maccagnan are constantly talking and trying to make sure that everything is right:

“Since we started, we've been in constant communication whether he's coming down to my office or I'm going to his office, that's all we're trying to do is make sure we're on the same page all the time,” he said. “We're trying to put this thing together as well as we can in a short period of time.”

Gase had spent the last three years as head coach of the Miami Dolphins, where he went 23-25 and led the Dolphins to one playoff appearance. Now, he takes over a Jets squad that has not made the postseason since the 2010-11 campaign.

With a promising young quarterback in Sam Darnold and an offseason in which New York made significant improvements to its roster, there are already relatively high expectations for Gase in his first season at the helm.
