It has been a rough sophomore year for Sam Darnold.

After a Week 1 loss to the Buffalo Bills, the New York Jets quarterback was sidelined for three games due to mono. He came back and had a strong effort against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6, but in Week 7, he had a historically bad outing against the New England Patriots in which he posted a 3.6 passer rating and was caught on tape saying that he was “seeing ghosts.”

Then, this past Sunday, Darnold put forth a rather unimpressive effort in a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, completing 21 of his 30 passes for 218 yards, a couple of touchdowns and three interceptions.

His numbers through four starts this season? He has thrown for 817 yards, five touchdowns and eight picks while completing 61.5 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 66.2.

That's not exactly what the Jets hoped to see from their No. 3 overall pick from 2018, but head coach Adam Gase has thrown his support behind his young signal-caller, saying on The Michael Kay Show that he “100 percent” believes in Darnold.

Darnold, who played his collegiate football at the University of Southern California, had a solid rookie campaign, finishing with 2,865 yards, 17 touchdowns and 15 picks while completing 57.7 percent of his throws and recording a passer rating of 77.6 in 13 starts.

As a result, New York was expecting bigger things from Darnold this season.

To be fair, Darnold's struggles are not all his fault, as he missed a few games and is playing behind a terrible offensive line.

The Jets are just 1-6 on the season.
