New York Jets head coach Adam Gase was seemingly inching closer to the edge of the hot seat after the team was destroyed by the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

Colin Cowherd was among those to report rumblings Gase would be fired if the Jets lost their matchup with the Denver Broncos on Thursday. Cowherd said Jets CEO Christopher Johnson had already begun reaching out to agents representing various coaches.

However, the Jets are refuting Cowherd's reports, per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk:

Per a team spokesperson, the report that Johnson has begun reaching out to coaching agents is not accurate.

Gase has been the center of some major storylines in his first two years in New York.

The former Miami Dolphins head coach has seemingly developed a bit of a contentious relationship with running back Le'Veon Bell, and he also loomed large in the Jamal Adams situation prior to the team trading the All-Pro to the Seattle Seahawks.

New York has started the season 0-3, though it is hard to place the blame solely on Gase. The Jets' defense suffered a major loss when inside linebacker C.J. Mosley opted out, and the team has since sustained a number of key injuries.

At the same time, Gase was supposed to have a reputation as an offensive guru. But he had little success during his Dolphins tenure, and the Jets are averaging just over 12 points through the first three games.

Additionally, players like Ryan Tannehill and Robby Anderson have had immediate success since parting ways with Gase.

Still, the Jets reportedly do not have immediate plans to fire Gase. They will give him the chance to turn things around.
