There are players and coaches that are confident in the NFL being able to conduct the 2020 season in a safe manner. It's safe to say that Avery Williamson of the New York Jets is not part of that group. While speaking to the media via a Zoom call on Wednesday, Williamson sounded off on players doing ‘stupid stuff' that could cause issues for the season.

“There’s a lot of guys in this league and a lot of guys do stupid stuff,” Williamson said via Zoom on Wednesday. “I feel like it’s going to be tough for guys to do the right thing the entire year. That’s just my opinion. Hopefully, guys police each other. I feel like it’s going to be tough. You see what’s happening in baseball.”

Of course, the Jets linebacker is speaking about the incidents involving the Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals of the MLB. Even though the MLB just began, both the Marlins and Cardinals had COVID-19 outbreaks on their rosters due to players not being responsible.

The veteran linebacker believes the same could take place in the NFL because players are used to doing what they want during the season.

“Guys are used to going out and doing what they want to do,” the veteran Jets linebacker said. “It’s going to take some maturity for guys to be smart and not party and try to keep to themselves.”

Seeing that football is a contact sport, there is some skepticism surrounding the 2020 NFL season. Unless players prove Williamson wrong, the NFL could have similar issues as the MLB when the season gets underway.
