The New York Jets have ushered in some significant changes this offseason. Regardless, linebacker Avery Williamson is convinced they were made for the better.

The Jets broke the bank in free agency with notable additions on both sides of the ball. According to Ethan Greenberg of the team’s official website, Williamson feels New York has the potential to be a top-five defense.

“Shoot, we can definitely be a top-five defense,” Williamson said. “We have all the talent right there, we just have to continue to be on the same page. We could be really great, we have the talent, man. I’m excited. We had a great squad last year. We didn’t have the best season, but we fought hard. So if we have all the pieces I feel like we do, we can really be something special.”

Williamson's comments may seem a bit far-fetched so early in the offseason. Fortunately, there is good reason for him to be confident considering all the talent they managed to bring in this offseason. The Jets made a splash after signing linebacker C.J. Mosley to a lucrative five-year, $85 million deal. Meanwhile, they also managed to pick up defensive end Quinnen Williams with the third overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Williamson etched out an integral role for himself in his first season in New York. The 27-year-old finished the 2018 campaign with 159 tackles, three sacks, seven passes defensed, and two forced fumbles while playing the Mike. However, Mosley's arrival has resulted in some changes as he is now expected to transition to the Will spot moving forward.
