New York Jets fans don't know much about newcomer Avery Williamson other than he's been brought in to directly replace Demario Davis. In fact, most of Jets fandom doesn't realize Williamson only played in rushing situations in 2017. When the subpackage was brought in for a second or third and passing situation, he marched right over to the sidelines.

Mr. Williamson didn't like it and now, reveals those feelings, via Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

“I don’t know, man,” Williamson told the New York Daily News. “It was a weird situation. . . . Honestly, I don’t know. But they didn’t want me to play certain downs. . . . I was definitely offended by that all last year. Like I said, it wasn’t my decision. Now I’m here and I’m definitely going to get the opportunity. So, I’m glad to be a part of this. It gives me extra fuel to continue to improve my game and become better than I was last year.”

“Offended,” he says, but despite his hurt feelings, he also fills everybody in on the idea that it won't impact him negatively moving forward. Instead, he's aiming to make sure it has the opposite effect.

“It’s motivation,” Williamson said. “There’s always going to be somebody’s that’s going to put news out there about you and say that you can’t do this or that. So, I prove them wrong. That’s the point: I know I’m a three-down backer. I know I got the skill set to do anything on the field. Shoot, I feel like I fit in perfectly with this defense.”

Williamson, 26, is a professional football player who's been forced to earn every bit of his career. As a fifth-round selection by Tennesee in the 2015 NFL Draft, hard work and effort has reigned supreme as the veteran's calling card.

In 2017, he tallied 52 tackles to go along with three sacks, two forced fumbles and two passes defensed in 16 games started as an inside linebacker out of Dick LeBeau's famed attacking 3-4 defense.

In New York, he'll be paired alongside the smaller and speedier Darron Lee.
