Through his first season in the NFL, New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold has had his fair share of struggles throughout the 2018 campaign.

Darnold is set to take the field in the regular season finale against the New England Patriots to close out his rookie year. Ahead of the matchup, head coach Bill Belichick has voiced much praise toward the 21-year-old's ability on the field, via Tyler Sullivan of 247 Sports.

“Yeah, he’s had a couple of them now,” Bill Belichick said Wednesday of Darnold's gaudy numbers last week. “Good decisions, accurate, probably better timing and execution in the passing game with his receivers, more yards, more touchdowns, fewer turnovers.”

Darnold has had his gone many ups and downs throughout the 2018 campaign, but he has shown some promising ability on the field along the way. He has demonstrated that he can be a game-changing factor with his arm along with strong decision making at times. This was clear in his strong outing in the 44-38 loss to the Green Bay Packers last week as he completed 24-of-35 for 341 yards and three touchdowns.

Granted, he has made several porous decisions that have led to throwing 15 interceptions, but that has come to be expected in his rookie campaign as he adjusts toward playing at the next level. Meanwhile, he isn't working with the best of talent around him that could better utilize his throwing ability.

Nonetheless, what these comments from Belichick indicate is that Darnold has a bright future ahead of him in New York.
