Earlier in the week, there was optimism that CJ Mosley was going to be able to suit up for the New York Jets in Week 2. Since then, the optimism has turned into absolute doubt as Mosley is ruled out against the Cleveland Browns.

The Jets signed Mosley to a five-year, $85 million deal to strengthen their linebacking corps. At the time, Mosley became the highest-paid inside linebacker and he showed his worth in Week 1.

The former Baltimore Ravens linebacker was able to tally six tackles, two pass deflections, an interception, and a touchdown in his debut in New York. Mosley's pick-six gave the Jets a 6-0 lead to begin the game in the first quarter.

However, a groin injury ended his day early and prevented him from helping the team secure a victory in New York's 17-16 loss to the Buffalo Bills. The veteran linebacker appeared on the injury report at the beginning of the week and began missing practices.

CJ Mosley and Adam Gase were optimistic that the linebacker could get himself in position to play on Monday night. Instead, they can throw that plan in the trash with the team announcing that Mosley will be in street clothes versus the Browns.

With CJ Mosley missing the game, Albert McClellan or rookie Blake Cashman will have to assume the starting spot. Last week, New York allowed Cashman to replace Mosley after his injury.

In the limited amount of play he received, Cashman finished the game with just two tackles against the Bills. Along with Mosley, New York will be shorthanded with Sam Darnold and Quinnen Williams being ruled out too.
