It’s been a couple of years since the New York Jets had any representatives in the Pro Bowl and seven years since they’ve had a First-Team All-Pro (Darrelle Revis in 2011). But young linebacker Darron Lee wants to change all of that this year.
The former first-round pick has made it his goal this season to take a significant leap forward and add those accolades to his resume.
“Absolutely trying to make the Pro Bowl, and have a hell of a year, be All-Pro,” Lee recently told NJ.com. “I’m not trying to be just some regular linebacker here. I’m trying to be the best, one of the best. That’s why I’m here.”
Lee already did make a decent improvement last season from his rookie year. He had three sacks, 94 total tackles, and two forced fumbles－all more than what he had in 2016.
However, he realizes that he needs to put up numbers in other categories like interceptions to seriously be in consideration.
“I’ve got to get some picks,” Lee said. “That’s going to be my main focus this year. I definitely had a way better second year. I think I’ve used those first two years to just absorb what I could do better. Now, I can really, really hone in.”
Along with Leonard Williams and Jamal Adams, Lee is one of New York's top young stars on defense. The Jets will be counting on him to make that leap he's set for himself this season in order for the team to see some much-needed improvement on that side of the ball.
