The New York Jets finally have some excitement with Robert Saleh and Zach Wilson coming to town, among others. Another big acquisition in the offseason was defensive end Carl Lawson. Unfortunately, the Jets star defender left practice early on Thursday.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Lawson suffered a torn Achilles and is done for the season.

This is a brutal blow for the Jets and for Lawson, who inked a three-year deal worth $45 million in the offseason and was set to anchor the Jets defensive group. But, this is just another unfortunate page in the injury history of Carl Lawson.

To make things worse for the Jets, they also lost safety Zane Lewis, who is also out for the season.

All in all a bad day for the Jets, especially for Lawson, and Saleh and company will head to the drawing board to find a way to make up for the loss of two defenders now.

The Jets face the Green Bay Packers in the preseason on Saturday afternoon, and all eyes will be on Wilson, the talented rookie from BYU who was selected second overall in the 2021 NFL Draft.

But two big losses in one day is tough to overcome, and here's to hoping both players recovering from the devastating injuries.
