New York Jets wide receiver Denzel Mims will miss his team's Week 14 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks due to a family emergency and COVID-19 protocols.

Jets head coach Adam Gase delivered the news Thursday morning:

The Jets (0-12) will travel to Seattle in hopes of earning their first win of the season, one week after their MetLife Stadium co-tenant, the New York Giants, pulled off an upset win over Russell Wilson and company. The Jets almost pulled off their own upset victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, only to blow it in the final seconds.

On a Zoom call with the media on Wednesday, Gase said Mims was dealing with a “personal issue” and said he couldn't go into further detail:

Considering Mims is not currently with the team, he would not be able to test negative enough times to take the field this Sunday in Seattle.

The rookie out of Baylor, whom the Jets selected in the second round in the 2020 draft, missed the first six weeks of his NFL career due to a lingering hamstring issue.

Since making his professional debut in Week 7, Mims has been a (relative) spark plug for New York's league-worst offense. Mims has 19 catches and 324 total receiving yards on 36 targets from Sam Darnold and Joe Flacco. He has accrued at least 40 receiving yards in each of his first six games.

Without Mims, Darnold will rely on wideouts Breshad Perriman and Jamison Crowder against a Seahawks defense that has given up the second-most yards per game (407.4) entering Week 14.
