Last week, the New York Jets made a big splash with their trade with the Indianapolis Colts, moving up from the sixth overall pick to the third overall selection in this year's draft. This gives them a prime opportunity to snag one of the top available quarterbacks in this year's crop.

Prior to that, there was some significant chatter about the Jets attempting to move up to the first overall pick from the Cleveland Browns, who were rumored to have asked for their 2019 first-round pick in the haul.

According to Eric Allen of the Newyorkjets.com, general manager Mike Maccagnan acknowledged that the team engaged in trade discussions with the Browns, but they felt it was in their best interests kept their 2019 selection.

The Jets gave up a hefty assortment of picks to move up to the third spot, including their sixth overall pick, two 2018 second-round selections, and a 2019 second rounder. The fact that New York was unwilling to move on from their first-round pick next year likely shows that they comfortable getting the player that they want at number three,

Two of Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Josh Allen, or Baker Mayfield will still on the board at the very least when the Jets are on the clock. Any of these quarterbacks could quickly step in to be potentially be the next franchise cornerstone under center. They have the freedom to move up even further to guarantee that they get the quarterback they most desire, but that price tag proved to be too hefty.

Meanwhile, this proves the Browns are willing to listen to offers that come their way for the first overall pick. They're likely asking for a major package of high draft selections in return, but there could be a window where a team becomes desperate enough to give up that assortment of picks.
