The New York Jets have will look to avoid being swept by the Miami Dolphins in 2019 while being shorthanded on defense. After suffering a sprained ankle in Week 13, Jamal Adams is considered to be doubtful in Week 14.

During last week's game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Adams sustained a sprained ankle. As a result, he was forced to exit the game early and undergo further testing.

Following the devastating loss to the Bengals, Adams' injury was considered to have a ‘week-to-week' timetable for a return.

As a matter of fact, it was reported that Adams could miss the rest of the season due to the injury. However, the versatile safety hasn't been ruled out for Sunday's game just yet. That goes to show that Adams has a decent chance of returning before the season concludes.

The loss of Adams is huge for a team that has been inconsistent on the defensive side of the ball. This season, the Pro Bowl safety is having an impressive sophomore season in the NFL.

In 12 starts, he has tallied 64 tackles, eight tackles for loss, 12 quarterback hits, a pick-six, and a fumble recovery touchdown. Of course, his 6.5 sacks are the most among defensive backs in 2019.

Besides Adams, the Jets will also be without Arthur Maulet and Brian Poole in the secondary. In addition, it's likely that Blake Countess will draw the start at strong safety in Adams' place.

The Jets aren't among the teams prying for a playoff spot in the AFC. Provided that, it will be interesting to see how New York handles Adams' injury moving forward.
