New York Jets safety Jamal Adams hasn't been hesitant to voice his frustration since the team solicited trade offers for him last season. The star safety has since publicly demanded a trade after an impasse in contract talks, thrown jabs on social media, and is now taking direct shots at the head coach (and the GM).

“I don’t feel like he’s the right leader for this organization to reach the Promised Land,” Adams told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News about Adam Gase. “As a leader, what really bothers me is that he doesn’t have a relationship with everybody in the building…he doesn’t address the team. If there’s a problem in the locker room, he lets another coach address the team.”

Adams' dislike of Gase was reportedly one of the factors in his trade request.

Gase recently said his relationship with Adams “has been good” since he started the job and “there’s been a lot of dialogue between us.” However, Adams said he hasn’t spoken to Gase since his exit interview before the New Year.

Adams, 24, made first team All-Pro in 2019, and the former No. 6 overall pick is looking for an extension that vaults him into the elite group of defensive players earning over $20 million annually. If his goal is to talk his way into being traded, he may be closer to getting his wish.

Jets GM Joe Douglas assured the safety he's open to trading him prior to the 2020 season for the right return package, though he has not given Adams' representatives permission to seek out offers.

Mehta's piece includes a timeline of baffling negotiation tactics and communication from Douglas towards Adams throughout the offseason. Clearly, Adams is perturbed by Douglas' wavering enthusiasm about their long-term partnership.

“Why would Joe come out and say, ‘We want to make Jamal a Jet for life?’” Adams wondered. “Why would you say that and then not even give me an offer?… Don’t B.S. me. I’m a straightforward guy. You don’t have to B.S. me, because I’m going to keep it honest.”
