The New York Jets are looking to avenge their defeat to the Carolina Panthers in the season opener. They will be hosting the New England Patriots at MetLife Stadium in Week 2, hoping to secure their first win of the season. However, despite previous optimism about his availability, it turns out rookie quarterback Zach Wilson and company won't have the help of Jamison Crowder.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Crowder is not on New York's active roster for Week 2.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport had previously reported that Crowder was likely to suit up against the Panthers despite being listed as questionable on the injury report.

Crowder was initially put on the COVID-19 list after testing positive for the virus a few weeks back. Though he's since tested negative and is no longer symptomatic, Crowder is still suffering from a groin injury that will prevent him from taking the field. Clearly, the Jets don't want to take any risks with Crowder's health at this early juncture of the 2021 season.

New York finished last season with a 2-14 record, netting the second overall pick in the draft and making Wilson its new franchise quarterback. The rookie threw for 258 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in his pro debut, also rushing for a two-point conversion.

It will be interesting to see the connection between Wilson and Crowder whenever the wide receiver is cleared to play.
