The New York Jets struck out on the Kirk Cousins Sweepstakes. Fortunately, they have successfully executed their contingency plan in lieu of recent events.
Cousins' decision prompted the Jets to go ahead and work on a deal with former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. According to Mike McCartney of Priority Sports, they have also re-signed quarterback Josh McCown as well:

Congrats to Josh McCown agreeing to a 1 year deal with the nyjets

New York's decision to retain McCown should come as no surprise. Following his solid performance down the final stretch of the 2017 NFL season, McCown expressed his desire to remain with the Jets. However, the team was active in their bid for Cousins since the offseason had begun and were not ready to decide on their looming quarterback situation just yet.

McCown certainly brings some stability under center. Although Bridgewater is likely the favorite to get the starting nod heading into the offseason, the veteran will certainly provide some stiff competition. McCown threw for 2,926 yards, 19 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in 13 games last season. He was even named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in Week 13 versus the Kansas City Chiefs.

Meanwhile, Bridgewater has missed the better part of the last two seasons after suffering a devastating knee injury prior to the 2016 campaign. He finally made his return in Week 15 against the Cincinnati Bengals and finished by throwing an interception on just two pass attempts in Minnesota's lopsided victory. That said, there is still plenty of speculation regarding Bridgewater's ability moving forward. Fortunately, the Jets have taken the right precautions under center to ensure it will not be a setback in the 2018 NFL season.
