The New York Jets headed into the 2018 NFL Draft with the goal of selecting what could be their next franchise quarterback. New York had no shortage of viable options with the position being a deep as it has been in recent memory. The team ended up drafting USC standout Sam Darnold with the third overall pick, and so far he's received rave reviews even from the player he'll ultimately unseat as the starter, Josh McCown.

The veteran quarterback recently talked about the team's incoming rookie and what he's seen from the former Trojan during the NFL offseason thus far. McCown sees all the right things in the 21-year-old, via SiriusXM NFL Radio.

“With Sam (Darnold), we have the right guy, he's wired the right way, he loves the game, he asks the right questions and he's willing to work…That's the foundation, you have to have that,” McCown said of Darnold.

The Jets have an interesting situation at the quarterback position. McCown had some success as the starter last season as he had a career year in New York. The veteran agreed to return on a one-year deal while the team brought in Darnold and also signed former Minnesota Vikings star, Teddy Bridgewater.

In all likelihood, McCown will remain the starter until the coaching staff feels the time is right to give Darnold the nod. There's also a chance the Bridgewater impresses during training camp and earns the starting job.

At this point, New York has some depth at the quarterback position with a potentially bright future ahead with Darnold expected to be their star under center eventually.
