Given all the changes for the New York Jets throughout the 2017 NFL season, their 5-7 record thus far has been somewhat surprising. However, not as surprising as the recent dynamic performance of veteran quarterback Josh McCown.

McCown lit up the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday en route to AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. According to Connor Hughes of the Star-Ledger, head coach Todd Bowles has since named him the starter for the rest of the year, barring injury:

McCown threw for 331 yards and a touchdown in the clutch 38-31 win over the Chiefs. Not only did he complete 72.2 percent of his passes, but he  ran for 19 yards and two touchdowns.

Josh McCown's resurgence has been unexpected given the Jets are obviously in the early stages of a rebuild. However, New York's younger signal callers in Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg have failed win over Bowles' trust all season.

Furthermore, there is little reason to make any changes down the final stretch of the year after McCown's Week 13 performance.

That said, there remain plenty of looming questions regarding the Jets personnel in the offseason. If there is one downside to McCown starting the rest of the way, it is that he will inevitably give them the best chance to win. Therefore, they could find themselves on the outside looking in with the potential influx of quarterbacks set to enter the 2018 NFL Draft.
